I have a Kubota loader (model #1630?). I don't have any manuals and wondered if anyone knew how to set it to float. Is there anything else I need to know about floating my blade? Thanks.

You just have to move your up and down control to the full down position and there should be a detent that will hold it in that position and that is your float position. ....

Art, if I put my loader in the full down position it lifts up the front end of my tractor. Is there another float position? ....

I believe that SCV's are available that don't have a valve with a float function. You can tell if a float exists, because one of the barrels on the back of the valve bodies is longer than the others. That's the valve with float. With a detend, there is a slight resistance at the top of the valve lever travel, and then it goes into float position. If the loader is lifting the tractor, it flops back down when the valve enters the float position. The float valve ordinarily is use on the lift, rather than bucket, circuit. However, when I got my used ford, I couldn't find the float for awhile. The valve with float was attached to the bucket circuit. A floating bucket sounds dumb, but I've heard that sometimes it's used that way for haying operations. Anyway, I'm describing a set of in-line control valves rather than a joy stick. I have to assume a joystick works the same way.

On my Kubota 2710, LA401 loader, I push the stick straight up as far as it will go. You can hear a sort of hissing sound telling you it is in the float position. ....

When you say it just lifts up the front of the tractor when the lift or lower lever is moved to the forward most of its movement it makes me wonder that for the age of the unit someone might have replaced the hoses at one time and connected them wrong. Tom is right that the valve will have a longer control sticking out of the back of the valve. the literature I have checked tells me the loader's like yours do have that feature and I believe you have should have that feature to. ....

Art, it is a used tractor with > 1000 hrs so it is likely that the hoses were replaced. I will have to get my hands on some manuals so I can answer these questions myself. Thanks for the insight. ....

The three point hitch on all tractors built today that I'm involved with except the Belarus have no down pressure on the three point hitch, so yes, we could say that is all they will do is float. ....
